United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has advised his fellow opposition political party leaders not to discuss the issue of the political alliance in the media if it is to succeed.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Hichilema expressed sadness at the story carried in today’s edition of the Post Newspapers indicating that he declined to attend the meeting to discuss the political alliance when he was not in the country.

Mr. Hichilema explains that he was in South Africa and came back last night and was shocked to find stories of him commenting on the alliance when he was not contacted by the Post Newspapers.

He states that some media houses are not interested in the opposition making an alliance and thus the need for the opposition driving an alliance agenda to discuss the matter in closed doors.

Mr Hichilema says the objective of an alliance is for the opposition to speak with one voice on so many issues like the constitution, the Access to Information Bill, and the Public Order Act and hold the PF government accountable for their failures.

Mr. Hichilema adds that the need for the opposition to unite cannot be questioned because all the parties are not happy with the governance of the PF. / Qfm
