HH waves at supporters

Opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema who lost the just held presidential election is now targeting the 2016 elections telling supporters that his dream of a better Zambia has been deferred to next year.

In a press statement Wednesday, February 4, 2015 to Zambian Eye, Hichilema has thanked his supporters and told them that he is indebted to them for the votes they gave him in the poll he lost by 27, 000 votes.

Below is Hichilema’s statement in full:

We are greatly indebted to the messages of goodwill and encouragement we keep receiving from fellow citizens and supporters home and abroad on our commitment for a peaceful, united, and better Zambia.

I want to assure all our supporters that the dream for a better Zambia has just been deferred to 2016 and we must keep the hope alive for the sake of the majority Zambians.

We are cognisant that there are no PF, MMD, UPND or indeed any sectarian shops, schools, hospitals and other basic life necessities, there are just facilities for all Zambians regardless of where they come from.

We truly believe that the cost of living for majority Zambians is way beyond people’s earnings, even worse for majority council workers that have not been paid for many months now, civil servants that have to grapple with the wage freeze, youths that are jobless partly due to the rise in the retirement age, and our farmers that have not been paid and failed to plant for this season.

We remain committed to those miners we promised small-scale mining licences instead of being labeled thieves in their own country.

The mealie meal prices, fuel prices, the cost of electricity and other essential commodities are beyond the reach of most Zambians and we are committed to addressing these artificial challenges that have been caused by poor leadership.

As we all know, the just ended presidential election was necessitated by the demise of our dear President Michael Sata (MHRIP). We in UPND were well within our calendar for the 2016 elections when this unfortunate incident happened.

As we move forward, we remain forever thankful to our alliance partners, foot soldiers and other volunteers that work tirelessly to unite this country to economically liberate it. It is unacceptable that the majority of Zambians should continue wallowing in abject poverty in a country that is endowed with huge natural resources simply because of having a leadership that has no vision. We need to change that unfortunate situation.

We know a number of our supporters across the country are going through the worst form of humiliation, hate speech, intimidation and crude violence never experienced before in this country from those who claim to have emerged victorious.

But I still insist that we remain calm and peaceful despite the amount of provocation such as being removed from trading places, and other forms of abuse and victimisation.

  1. Thank you Mr Hakainde Hichilima for your peaceful message and reviving our dumpen spirits. We remain on your side because of the values you stand for, the vision you have for many suffering Zambians. WE will again campaign and support you physically and emotionally untill we see you lead us as a Zambian President which I believe it will be a turning point of many Zambians who have never tested trusted leadership. We look forward for a better Zambia where food will be sure, education will be granted, employment will be real, mining, agricultre will again be a backbone of our economy, where we will share political dabates without insults and fighting, where Zambia will be industrialised. We look to days where our hopeless situations will change to a land of hope. Zambia will again shine and we will be a happy nation only if you vote out Visionless leaders and bring around men and women who have been planning to tranform Zambia into a country of equal opportunity for all. HH we love you and be strong and have courage for God has never left you alone, He is faithful and one day power to bring economic freedom to many Zanbians will surely be in your hands.

  2. HH says, ‘…those who claim to have won the election’

This rigid position taken by HH to refuse to accept the outcome of the election will have a negative effect on HH’s performance in next year’s elections. This is because of the following:

    1) Democracy demands that you accept the outcome of an election and congratulate the winner, but HH’s continued refusal to accept defeat is an indicator that he is not a democrat.
    2) Because of (1) above, people will have doubts about his ability to leave office in an event he were defeated by opposition if he was to be president.
    3) The point in (2) above implies he would easily turn a dictator.
    4) By the points (1), (2), and (3), people will be afraid to put him in State House.

Now, HH can choose to rubbish what I have written above and continue stiff necked posture over the just ended elections; it is his democratic right. But my take is that such will be expensive for him.

    • I appreciate your response.
I am sure that you hope that if HH can have as many supporters like yourself as possible he can win the 2016 elections.
Supporters like yourself, am sure, believe that if they can insult a lot then HH can win.
They believe that instead of casting their votes to elect HH, they can simply cast their insults and make him win.
I hope you are not thinking that HH lost because you did not insult as much in 2015. It is clear that you intend to increase the number of insults in 2016, then your candidate can immerge victorious.
As for me and my colleagues, we will continue using the Vote and the ballot.
I wish you the best in your newly found democratic strategy.
I take no offense, because my thinking is way above insults – as I take insults to be a measure of someone’s top limit in thinking.
So, normally I feel sorry for the person insulting, and hope that something will be done in future to help them live a normal life; where there future attempts to think will not results in insults. Because I think that, that should be very painful experience to them.

      • As much as everyone hates insults I wonder whether others may not take your comments on HH as an insult? I say so because people think that anything bad said about them is an insult.

You seem to be SPECIALISING IN finding fault in anything that HH and his supporters say. Do you find that to be fare in the face of those who think that that stance is rather myopic?

Remember, if you DO NOT like your wife or husband you will always find faults in them, NO MATTER WHAT! So your statement of “top limit in thinking” can actually be used in REVERSE.
