UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema this morning visited First President Kenneth Kaunda amid calls for the latter to engineer peace talks between the former and the current President Edgar Lungu.

The opposition leader later held private talks with the elder statesman at his home in Lusaka.

Hichilema also presented a gift to the 94-year-old liberation hero – a framed photograph of the first post-independence cabinet.

“We visited our country’s First President, Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda at his residence in Lusaka this morning,” the opposition leader wrote on his Facebook page.

“We thanked him for the wise counsel and his selfless leadership to the country.

“We wished him good health and like he stated; We are ready to work together as a people for the betterment of our country.

“Fellow Zambians, do not lose hope because help is on the way.

“And remember; People power! Our power! Our land.

May God Bless our Country.”

Some sections of society have been calling on Dr. Kaunda to reconcile President Lungu and Hichilema, with the much talked about national dialogue process seemingly headed for a dead end.
