HH addressing a rally in Kafulafuta

UPND presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema says he is disturbed by reports of civil servants and public sector workers from quasi-government institutions being arbitrarily dismissed, transferred and intimidated on suspicion of sympathising with the opposition.

Hichilema has however assured those that have been on the receiving end of such acts that he will restore them to their positions and pay their salaries and allowances, adding that they should consider themselves as being on holiday for now.

In a statement, the opposition leader says the main casualties are those in the security wings, such as police officers that try to be professional in the discharge of their duties.

He described the arbitrary dismissals as a total violation of the resolutions of the recently held political parties Indaba organised by the church mother bodies that called for an end to such acts.

He noted that it is also a violation of the people’s civil liberties and counter to the principles of running a professional civil service.

He has since committed himself to running a professional civil service that will be depoliticized, well remunerated, and paid on time once he is voted into office on August 11.

He said this is necessary for the skilled, diligent and hardworking civil service required to advance and implement his 10 Point Plan to fix Zambia.
