Opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema (HH) has offered to help the PF government restructure it’s debt, reports Asa Manda.

Commenting on the move by the Ministry of Finance to hire foreign Financial debt Advisors to help restructure it’s debt, Hichilema says that would be a waste of money.

Hichilema an Economist and UK trained Financial Management scholar says he is ready to help government for free.

”Government is looking for advisors on debt restructuring. We think Government must not waste time and money on foreign advisors,” Hichilema said.

”We in the UPND are ready to work with the Government to address this issue. The Government just needs to provide us with the entire debt portfolio and we can work with their technocrats to devise strategy for debt recovery.”

Contrary to assertions that he lack patriotism, Hichilema said he is ready to help the country.

”This work will be done for free, we have patriots that are ready to move on this distressing situation,” he said.

After forming government in 2011 the PF went flat out to borrow in order to develop the country’s infrastructure.

Zambia has borrowed that it’s debt now stands at not less than $13 billion. The country is under pressure on how to service this debt with the Eurobond which soon be due.

    • Be wise bro. PF are looking for help and will spend more for hiring an expatriate. What is rubbish honestly about the offer HH has made, That too for free? We are in a crisis and let’s for once be progressive in our thinking.

  4. PF cannot manage a market much less a country in crisis, as is obvious from the declining state of the country for several months. They could set up a task force of Zambians who are experienced and interested in offering advice, but no. The tribalists are already trying to damage any offer from HH because they can’t see past their hatred for an accomplished citizen who has offered to help.
This is a country is bound to fail with people like that.
