HH mourns Nsanda, as Lungu declares a day of national mourning

UPND president Hakainde Hichilema has conveyed his condolences to the Nsanda family, Patriotic Front and President Edgar Lungu on the death of RDA Chairman Willie Nsanda.

Nsanda who was also member of the PF Central Committee died at Milpark Hospital in South on Tuesday where he had been hospitalised.

In his condolences message conveyed by UPND Spokesperson Colnerious Mweetwa, Hichilema says Nsanda had contributed immensely to Zambia’s democracy.

Meanwhile President Lungu has declared a day of National Mourning in honour of the late Mr. Nsanda.

President Lungu has directed the Secretary to the Cabinet to make necessary arrangements for a Day of National Mourning on the day when burial would take place.

“At the time of his demise, Mr Nsanda was a member of the Patriotic Front (PF) Central Committee and Chairman of the Road Development Agency (RDA). He also previously served as Deputy Minister under the MMD government. The President used his discretion to grant a State Funeral in recognition of the great service Mr Nsanda rendered to the nation especially in business and politics,” Amos Chanda, President Lungu’s Aide said in a statement.

The President has since dispatched to South Africa, PF Secretary-General Mr Davies Chama and another member of the central committee, Mr. Samuel Mukupa to help with funeral arrangements.

The President regrets that the death of Mr Nsanda has robbed the party of a great party mobiliser who helped the party win the 2011 elections and participated in various party activities.

“In moments of tragedy like this, only God is the comforter because there is nothing that can give you solace other than our belief that God is the ultimate giver of life. Moments like this will always remind us of our mortality and thereby afford us an opportunity to express love and fraternity to one another,” the Head of State said.

“Our nation and PF have lost one of their dedicated sons. Mr. Nsanda courageously endured the pain he carried to ensure that late President Michael Chilufya Sata was succeeded by a leader who would carry forward his vision to transform Zambia into a better place. Nothing can diminish our sense of profound and enduring loss we feel as the PF family. Our prayers are with the Nsanda family. This is indeed a moment of our deepest sorrow. Yet it must also be the moment of our greatest determination.”

  1. Yes Nsanda gave Guy Scot and UNPD quite some head ache. He was a true loyal PF member and patriotic Zambian. I just wished he was a Christian.
HH be warned too that riches cannot buy you eternal life better repent and be born again now. Your appointment with God is coming too. Don’t be busy with politics and accumulation of wealth at the expense of your soul.

    • Zakeyo, the first thing that came to mind was whether he was a Christian or not. I just hope that even on his death bed, he was able to give hi life to Christ.

The bible says, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul” Bringing it home to Zambia. What does it profit a man to gain all the political power and wealth and in the end lose his own soul.

    • I like to look at things from another angle. In all honesty, I somehow have a feeling that HH is never sincere when he says things like this. Just the other day, his online paper the watch and even this one, the Zambianeye were celebrating the news that Nsanda had died. HH is just politicking here. If he said that to a close frined I would say he was sincere but not to someone he hated.

  3. All of you above, who are you to judge others? Who gave you the barometer to measure Christianity and sincerity? Leave judgement to God. You cant tell who has repented and who hasnt. God will judge us all and some of us who always think others are more sinful than us will be surprised to find ourselves on the wrong side. Christianity is a personal business with your God. Riches are not a sin in themselves. It is what you do and what you fail to do that matters. Leave HH alone. Concentrate on your well being spiritually, economically, morally and physically. Your bashing of HH on daily basis will improve non of these in your case. If HH is not your choice, fine but dont malign him as though he depends on you. You remember Jonah in Ninive? He hated so much and God helped him to feel the pain by making a shade for him. I thank God for Nsanda, I thank God for HH, I thank God for Lungu and all leaders. Those that are still living I wish them well.

  4. Musonda Mwanakashi what makes you think and feel that HH hated Willie Nsanda? Having different political opinion does not mean hatred. We know that this guy was selfish even in his business especially when you consider how he harrassed his competitors in the bus passenger service industry such as Smalls and Sebelo of Botswana. We all know that Willie was a board chairman of RDA where he had imaginary board members and together with Sata gave contracts to whoever they thought was deserving. Whether this was good or bad HH questioned this move and warned of temptation to corruption and other wrong doings and today you call that hate. Leave HH to mourn his business couterpart without this kind of bias. Thank you to all those that are sending condolencies to the family of our late friend Willie Nsanda including such people like Kambwili Chishimba who insulted and had bitter exchange of words with Willie during the campaigns of now President of Zambia Edgar Lungu.
