HH has lost popularity, he can’t get 50+1% vote now desperate to win 2026 polls via Bill 7- Monde

PF National Mobilization Chairperson Greyford Monde says President Hakainde Hichilema has lost popularity as he has failed to deliver and wants to retain power through the back door.

He says the President wants to do so by amending the Constitution to remove a clause that requires a President to get 50+1 percent of the vote.

He speaking when he featured on Millennium Tonight, Monde said Zambians are happy with the current 50+1 percent as opposed to a generalised majority vote.

“President Hichilema lost popularity because he has failed to deliver, he can’t get 50+ percent vote so he wants to amend the Constitution so that he will be voted by MPs instead.

“His delimitation is to create more constituencies in his strongholds, thereby creating more MPs who will vote him as opposed to the current 50+1 vote requirement,” he said.

He bemoaned lack of campaign time saying the elections are just around the corner. Monde said the state institutions are being put under pressure to deny parties room to campaign.

“When you inform the police that you want to conduct a rally. They would say they don’t have enough manpower to maintain peace and order.

“But if you defy and hold rally you see a lot of police officers deployed to seal off the place. Leaving you wondering how come they said they don’t have enough manpower,” he said.
