HH gives strong performance at Presidential debate

Presidents 1Hakainde Hichilema again demonstrated tonight why he should be elected Zambia’s next President: he is the candidate with the right combination of vision, expertise, and leadership qualities to move Zambia forward.

Speaking directly to the people he hopes to serve, Mr. Hichilema summarised his campaign platform by saying: “We are seeking to address the paradox of poor people in a rich country. I know that in the past our leadership has failed us but we can realise that potential and that is why we are seeking office”. He later explained why voters should cast their vote for Hakainde Hichilema on 20 January 2015: “If you are sick you go to a doctor, if your car is broken you go to a mechanic, and if the economy is sick you need to go to an economic manager”.

It is the message of national unity and moving forward that we will continue to bring across the country in the final days of this campaign.

He once again stressed the importance of education stating “Education is the best investment. It is the best equaliser. It is the best heritage.” Explaining “Education breeds the skills we need to develop the economy”.

On job creation Mr Hichilema explained the UPND approach saying “We will create jobs by supporting businesses, Zambian businesses, to not only survive but to grow and create job opportunities for the Zambian people”. While saying of economic management that ‘It is very important for those of us seeking public office to think in a way that is connected because the economy is interconnected”.

We are extremely disappointed that PF President Edgar Lungu decided that he could not be bothered to show up for this debate. Those who seek to hold offices of power and responsibility should not be afraid to engage in respectful discussion, and have their positions exposed and challenged. With that said, we are not surprised that Mr. Lungu chose to hide rather than defend the PF’s record of broken promises in front of a national audience. It is yet another example in a pattern of absence and avoidance that has plagued the PF government since day one. Fortunately for the Zambian people, those days will come to an end on 20 January 2015.

On behalf of Mr. Hichilema and the UPND, I want to thank Muvi TV and Hot FM for organising the debate as well as Dr. Mumba, Ms. Nawakwi, Mr. Chipimo and Mr. Sinkamba for their participation. To the people of Zambia, a new journey awaits us all with Hakainde Hichilema as President. We hope to earn your vote on Tuesday 20 January 2015.

  1. 1) Chipimo: I think NAREP needs a closer look. It’s president was the biggest winner since he gained more mileage than the others. He has my vote for 2021.

    2) Nawakwi: was solid and confident. Well rounded as well. She can make a good president as well. She speaks to the issues that matter in a household.

    3) HH: came out firm on his points and his belief in the promise of economic management and prudence. I think he was able to talk to the undecided in the swing provinces of LSK & CB.

    4) Nevers: was the best on foreign policy. Sparks here and there.

    5) Sinkala: shouldn’t have been on that stage. Mainly spoke about ganja, when livelihood are at stake.

Based on this and electability HH gets my 2015 vote

    • @One Zed-Always HH gets good coverage and comments from his internet fans even if HH has done or said nothing sensible. From the panel there, those who were truthful in what they were saying are Chipimo Jnr and Nevers.HH projected more of self than team work. The Doctor, the Mechanic they both get sick. The Doctor and the Mechanic may need help also. That’s why Leadership is more than being a Doctor,Mechanic,Economist,Accountant etc.Leadership is the wisdom of how to deal with the complexies of life.HH is a Departmental Leader and NOT National Leader pliz zambians.

  2. A great debate, that improved exponentially in quality as it progressed. Thought they all did well generally, but HH came out the strongest, overall. Elias, Edith and Nevers gave him a good run though.

The biggest disgrace is that it was not on our national TV, ZNBC. This was such an important debate, that not letting the nation see it on ZNBC, when we all pay TV levy, is a scandal!

As citizens, we must demand that ZNBC airs this debate, which is of national importance. I was edging towards voting for the PF, but the fact that Edgar opted to stay away from such a key debate, means my vote will go to HH!

      • This shows how much you lack reasoning! Organised People do things based on intellectual judgement. When you go for a job interview you need to ARTICULATE ISSUES based on job requirements.
Even a woman will not marry you by just telling her “you want to have sex with her”.

Your thinking is purely PF where:
.people don’t know what planning means,
        .organisation is alien,
        .civility is for the privileged,
        .reason is too expensive.

It is unfortunate that the PF bloggers have already started to infuse mediocrity (not an insult) by the comments they have posted thus far. e.g Strong Man. It is also unfortunate that Pro-HH bloggers like Rich Gang are responding with foul language.

  9. I now see that some people don’t understand what Leadership is.From the Presidential aspirants,Dr Mumba tried to bring out true Leadership quality while others were more of self projection.Leadership is more of Wisdom at play than aquiring some external qualification, which a thief or criminal can get.But Wisdom is from God.In all honest,Dr Mumba is more sober and truful to what he said.

  12. People please! You expect the ruling PF to reduce itself to that level?

It is clear knowledge that the media houses organising that debate are mouth pieces of the UPND, ECL and PF have no time to waste now, they are busy consolidating their grip.

Maybe ZNBC should organise one where we will definitely be present, not ba Muvi. It’s like saying the ECL attends a function organised by the Post News Paper, is it POSSIBLE?

Zambian’s let’s be serious, 11 candidates for presidential? we understand this is their democratic right, but I think as the ruling party, PF has no time for dramatic cosmetic functions. A great responsibility lies ahead of them, that of replacing our great Micheal Chilufya Sata and that of ensuring they deliver what the many Zambians expected them to when they overwhelmingly gave them that WIN in 2011.

Let us not burry our heads in sand and pretend we are not seeing how their performance has been, I think the programmes and projects speak volumes, no need for anyone to vuvuzela at debates. What we want is action, that’s what we saw in ba SATA, not flowery empty speeches. May his soul rest in peace “MAN OF ACTION”.

  13. In as much as I support HH, I should be able to say that Chipimo and Nevers outclassed HH in that the former two were able to articulate issues as opposed to our candidate HH. HH was more theoretical than practical. One issue that made me feel bad is the issue of him declaring himself a winner before casting the vote. In psycology we say “Defec el pub” meaning “conceding defeat before the actual”

  15. ‘Strong man’ and Montana your names do not match your brains. Which tribe is the minority in Zambia? Whether majority or minority as Zambians we should be given chance to rule our country Zambia. Your foolish out bursts can land this country in chaos. Being Bemba or Nyanja does not qualify you to be the strongest. What matters is the intelligence and quality of leadership one has. You will be surprised that HH can make a good President than some of these visionless Presidential aspirants you are supporting. Keep your mouths shut if all what you think is tribe. You are behaving like Kafue weed to Zambia’s politics with no direction and vision. VIVA HH

  16. @strong head, i should assure you that the head of this country is God.

A time has come when God has cast aside people like you.

Physically, to your disappointment, the heads of this country are the indians, chinese and, now, arabs, that are controlling the economy.

as we go on rapping about tribalism, hegemony, on so forth, as we go on backstabbing one another as a country, as a people, people are coming into the country, leave you in your tribal acts, and they make money and take it away.

It is people like you, yes, you, that guarantee the well being of those who come to to control our economy, people like you who guaranteee the confusion and lack of unity that exists among us as an indigenous people.

God is the head of our nation, and this shall be proven to you soon

  22. This debate was fake.

UPND orchestrated it for their benefit. They got media which supports them, got a moderator who favors them. You should have judged from the welcome to the debate, 2 leaders delayed but only one leader sent the moderators knees knocking to welcome him- so obvious. Even the responses to the interviews were rehearsed. Program was meant to promote one party. They only had to deal with the leakage to produce “brilliant” answers. That is how they will cheat the Zambians to manipulate the constitution. Zambians are sleeping, looking at outward things.

They also like copying the good others are saying/ doing, fabricating bad stories against opponent or capitalizing on weakness of others to climb the ladder. They have nothing to offer Zambians. Very dangerous characteristics, they may bring evil to this country. Vote wisely.
