United Party for National Development (UPND) has demanded that his aide, Mubita Nawa be brought to court without further delay saying his continued detention without trial is a clear violation of his rights.

Hichilema says the 48-hour period in which Zambian laws provides for the police to hold suspects to process an arrest and present them before a judge, has since expired for Nawa.

He says like many other Zambians being held without trial, he demands that Nawa appears before court without further delay.

He writes:

The 48-hour period in which our laws provides for the police to hold suspects to process an arrest and present them before a judge, has since expired for Mubita Nawa.

The presumption of innocence principle which holds that any person accused of any crime is considered innocent until proven guilty is unequivocally pivotal to the rule of law.

Holding Nawa any further is a presumption of guilt and violates his human rights enshrined in our constitution.

Like many other Zambians being held without trial, I demand that he appears before court without further delay.
