Heavy rains sweep away maize in Kachibiya

PF Member of Parliament Sunday Chanda has revealed calling for aid.

Chanda a former PF Vovuzela says his constituency has in the last few weeks experienced alot of rainfall that has left maize, beans, tobacco and groundnut fields washed away.

He disclosed the development in a statement below availed to Zambian Eye:

CALLING ON SEED COMPANIES TO HELP STORM AFFECTED KANCHIBIYA FARMERS WITH SEED.

Heavy storms have in the last few days swept away some maize, soya, groundnuts, beans and tobacco fields in Chinama Ward and other places in Kanchibiya Constituency. This unfortunate development if not addressed will further expose affected and vulnerable families to hunger and poverty.

On behalf of the affected farmers in Chinama Ward of Kanchibiya Constituency in Kopa Chiefdom, I wish to appeal to seed companies to stand with these affected families in their time of need. We are requesting for legumes which the affected farmers will be able to plant within the month of January 2023.

Part of Kanchibiya’s medium to long-term objective around food security is to establish local seed banks to be run by cooperatives at Ward level. These will not only assure food security at community level but serve as the first point of call when such emergencies arise.
