Some people in the capital are putting the lives and health of unaware Lusaka residents in danger by recycling disposable surgical masks that they would have picked up from dump sites.

Meanwhile, one of the key preventive measures against coronavirus is the wearing of masks.

Recently, President Edgar Lungu made it a mandatory for everyone in public places to wear masks.

The demand for masks is currently on the rise and unscrupulous individuals are cashing in on the demand at the expense of the health of others.

They pick the disposed masks, wash them before selling them to the unsuspecting residents.

It has since become a common sight to see women and girls picking the masks at Lusaka’s Chunga dumpsite for resale.

Meanwhile, medical experts are on record calling for residents to use only medically tested and proven masks.
