Vice president Guy Scott on Monday refused to apologise again to the Tonga people for labeling them as a minority tribe wanting to take over the reign of power, reports Zambian Eye Correspondent in Monze.

The Vice president who was the Guest of honor at the Tonga Lwiindi Gonde Traditional Ceremony charged that he could not repeat his apology he made in Parliament which he says was widely covered by the Media.

He was reacting to Mazabuka Central constituency Member of Parliament Garry Nkombo who earlier told him to take advantage of being at the Tonga ceremony to apologise.

And speaking as Ceremony Patron Hakainde Hichilema who heads the opposition UPND said there was no minority tribe in Zambia. He went on to give an example of United States of America where the black in the minority but have a black President.

Hichilema said choosing of leaders must be based on quality and not the tribe one belongs if the country is not proposer. He said unity and peace should be promoted by all Zambians and that traditional ceremonies were important in reflecting the country’s cultural values and norms.

The UPND leader also asked government to increase the floor price of maize from K70 to K85.  He advised government to equip farmers with adequate drugs for livestock protection against diseases.

And Dr. Scott told the people that the PF government was committed to develop Southern province through scaling up infrastructure. He cited the upgrading of Monze-Niko Road commencing in September this year as one of the projects government will run in the district.

Dr Scott said that Government had accelerated the delivery of various infrastructure projects across the province in order to improve the living standards of the locals.

The Lwiindi Gonde Traditional Ceremony is held annually in the month of July, west of Monze town at a place called Gonde which means a thick shrub. The ceremony is held to give thanks to the ancestors for the good harvest of the farming season.

  3. Guy Scott and his PF changing faces must be replaced. We need economic managers like HH to run our affairs. The whole country is suffering from donchi kubeba cancer. The only remedy is romoving PF from power.
