Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili has described Friday, June 3, 2016 as the “darkest day for Zambian politics” following UPND presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema decision to pick Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba as his running mate.

Hichilema had kept Zambians guessing to the very last minute before unveiling Mwamba as the chosen one. UPND supporters across the country waited with bated breaths as the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) scrutinized Hichilema and Mwamba’s papers, before breaking into jubilation as the ECZ chairperson Justice Esau Chulu declared the duo’s nominations valid.

But reacting to the development, Dr. Kambwili said Mwamba, commonly known as GBM, is not a suitable candidate for presidential running mate.

He told ZNBC News in an interview that Mwamba is well known for insulting and has been to court five times for different assault cases.

Dr. Kambwili alleged that Mwamba cannot be trusted with the leadership of the country.

And PF deputy spokesperson Frank Bwalya has reacted by questioning Mwamba’s educational background. He wondered why the former Kasama lawmaker has opted to use his “higher qualification” as opposed to his grade 12 certificate.

“He said he had a grade 12 school certificate and that when he produces it people would be shocked. Well he has shocked us by not using it to file his nomination¬†papers as running mate the UPND HH. We are left wondering why he has used some other so called higher qualification. Should we give him the benefit of the doubt? Well I think HH has made a mistake he will live to regret,” the former Catholic priest wrote on his Facebook page.
