Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema has thanked Kasama Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba for endorsing his candidature in the forthcoming presidential election.
The Kasama PF strongman yesterday threw his weight behind HH, accusing his party and it’s leader Edgar Lungu of sidelining party structures in the Northern Province in the on-going presidential campaigns. He however said he will remain a committed member of the ruling party.
In a statement released to the press this afternoon, the UPND leader also said Mwamba’s endorsement was not about party politics but about who was best equipped to take the country to greater heights, adding that his party was a platform for people from all walks of life to unite in a quest to deliver change.
“I would like to thank the Honourable Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba for his endorsement ahead of the 20 January 2015 Presidential by-election. He has made a commendable decision to follow his conscience and endorse a candidate based on his assessment of who represents the best prospect for Zambia.”
“As we have stated from the start our platform is based on unity and open to all. We need Zambians from every corner of the country and every walk of life to join with us to deliver change. This is not about party politics or ambition; this is about moving Zambia forward for the next 50 years.”
“This is about delivering a new people-driven constitution, paying farmers on time, empowering youth, managing our economy better and cutting back on waste so we can invest more in education and healthcare, create jobs and reduce the cost of living. It’s about ending the communication void between government and the people, and ending government interference in traditional governance.”
“I take very seriously the weight of responsibility those who have endorsed me have placed upon me. We will deliver, for them and for every Zambian.”
” In this campaign we are striving to show the power of strength, maturity and unity of purpose over division and derision. I hope we are already demonstrating that together we can achieve more, and that positivity and forward looking can unite us all, even where others have tried to divide us in the past.”
“We remain open to those who want to join our journey to build a better and united Zambia.”
