Frank Bwalya has announced that his party – ABZ will not participate in the current activities being organised by PF to commemorate the 50 years of the country’s Independence.

In a statement to Zambian Eye Fr. Bwalya cited a number of reasons that has made his party to boycott the country’s major event.

Below is his statement in full:

Alliance for Better Zambia (ABZ) will not participate in activities organized by the PF government to celebrate the Independence Golden Jubilee. We have taken this position in protest against PF betrayal over the current constitution making process and the blocking of the enthronement of Henry Kanyanta Sosala as Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people.

PF BETRAYAL OVER THE CONSTITUTION MAKING PROCESS
Our party believes that PF has scandalously betrayed the confidence of the Zambian people by going against their own promise contained in the PF manifesto to deliver a people driven constitution in a cost effective and expedient manner. Moreover, the manner in which PF has u-turned on this very important matter has great potential to make Zambians lose confidence in political leadership. As such, we fear that should Zambians lose confidence in the political dispensation our country may become ungovernable.

BLOCKING OF THE ENTHRONEMENT OF HENRY K SOSALA
The irrational move by PF to block the enthronement of Henry Kanyata Sosala as Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba speaking people of Northern Province is partly blamed on a weak constitution that allows the Republican President to abuse his powers even over clear issues.
As ABZ we can’t join the PF government in celebrating our Independence Golden Jubilee because doing so would be tantamount to turning a blind eye to their illegal and clearly immoral conduct over the issue of Chitimukulu. Our party that draws members from various tribes in Zambia feels that if we join PF in the Independence Golden Jubilee celebrations we would be betraying the Bemba Royal Establishment and our members wo are subjects of Paramount Chief Chitimukulu.
We hope that our protest will serve to prick the conscience of President Michael Chilufya Sata and make him allow the Bemba people enthrone their chosen paramount chief namely Henry Kanyanta Sosala.
Against this background, we have decided to stay away from activities organized by the PF government to celebrate our Independence Golden Jubilee.
Our conscience forbids us.

CONSCLUSION
We want to make it clear that our party doesn’t ascribe to the thinking that there is nothing to celebrate 50 years after independence from colonial rule. As a matter of fact, there are many blessings to count especially the peace and unity that our country has enjoyed. As such, our decision to stay away from PF organized celebrations should be understood as a protest within its proper context outlined in this statement.
