Former University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) president Ali Tunkara has been arrested for drug trafficking in India.

Tunkara was arrested by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at Indira Gandhi International Airport Airport, India, after his bag was found with substances believed to be drugs.

According to the CISF report, a 22-kg narcotic substance, ‘Pseudoephedrine’, was seized from him. He was bound for Ndola, Zambia via Addis Ababa.

Tunkara, along with the seized narcotic substance, was handed over to Narcotics Control Bureau officials for further necessary action.

This is not the first time that Tunkara is being arrested for a serious crime, in 2013 when he was at the helm of UNZASU, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) arrested him with two other students for forgery, uttering of false documents and attempted theft involving K50 million which the Minister of Education Professor Nkandu Luo donated.
