Fooling Zambians with fake mealie meal price reduction

Agriculture and Livestock Minister Given Lubinda announced the reduction in mealie meal prices in Lusaka today at a media briefing.

Mr Lubinda says the wholesale price of a 25kg bag of breakfast will now be K61.00 from K65.00 while a 25 kg bag of roller meal will now cost K44.00 from K52.00.

We are not prophets of doom, but we know this is nothing but an ejaculative knee jerk political pronouncement that will yield nothing. We will remind you of this fact in a few weeks.

Is it us only who got this right or not, did he say wholesale price or retail price, do not be excited, when you buy goods, does the common man pay wholesale price or retail price?

Here is the maths, an average businesses puts a 30 to 35% mark up as profit in their retail business.

1. So if the whole sale price is k61 this entails the retail price will be k82 for breakfast.
2. And roller meal K60.

If PF are serious can they drop the mealie meal price to K40 as retail price not making fake price reductions yielding nothing.
