First consignment of COVID-19 vaccine AstraZeneca arrives at KKI

Minister of Health Dr Jonas Chanda has received the first batch of Zambia’s COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine from India, which touched down at Kenneth Kaunda International (KKI), this afternoon.

Other dignitaries who witnessed the arrival of the consignment include the UN family lead by the Country coordinator, High Commissioners and Ambassadors.

The first batch contains 2 hundred and 28 thousand doses which will be administered to frontline health workers, among others.

Chanda has reiterated that the vaccination will be done in a transparent and accountable manner.

Speaking when he received the vaccine batch, Dr. Chanda said the vaccination will be implemented in a cautious and phased up manner and on a voluntary and pilot basis.

He said it is the government’s hope that all eligible citizens above 18 years will be vaccinated voluntarily and curb the spread of the disease.
