The National Democratic Congress NDC has urged President Edgar Lungu to fire Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Minister Lawrence Sichalwe for circulating phonographic materials.

The has also urged to Police to arrest Sichalwe, 58, who posted a pornographic video to a WhatsApp group called ‘What Government is Doing’ and later blamed technology for his embarrassing blunder.

The minister sheepishly claimed he had been trying to delete the said video from a different WhatsApp group but accidentally forwarded it to the PF group as group members took turns roasting him.

But Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo later released a statement explaining that whether Sichalwe posted the video by mistake or not, he committed an offence of being in possession of pornographic material.

Katongo said there is no way the video could have been shared if he was not in possession of it, adding that since the law does not segregate, Sichalwe may be prosecuted even if he is a minister.

Just when the matter appeared destined to die a natural death, the opposition NDC have made it clear Sichalwe deserves to be shown the door.

“As NDC, we feel Mr. Sichalwe should be fired because he has brought shame and embarrassment to the nation,” said NDC national youth chairperson Charles Kabwita today.

“The offence committed by Mr. Sichalwe is a serious one and President Lungu should not gloss over the matter.”

Kabwita says Sichalwe should be brought before the courts of law so that he can exonerate himself.

“The conduct of circulating absence materials clearly shows how immoral and wicked Mr. Sichalwe is.

“We further urge the church to join calls to have the said Cabinet Minister to be fired.

“Further, in the interest of morality, we urge Mr. Sichalwe to vacate his office on moral grounds,” Kabwita stated.

Sichalwe has yet to release a formal statement over the incident.
