The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) held its reconvened Annual General Meeting with Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts permanent secretary Kangwa Chileshe hailing the football family for resolving their matters outside courts of law as prescribed by FIFA Statutes.

And FAZ president Andrew Kamanga advised members to always adhere to constitutionalism when resolving grievances.

Meanwhile proposals from FC Muza and Elite Ladies were referred to the Emergency General Meeting by the council after the two clubs were allowed to make presentations before the congress.

Officially opening the AGM, Chileshe said government was happy that matters that had thrown the game into turmoil had been resolved outside the courts of law.

“I am aware that this Annual General Meeting was initially meant to be held early in the year but it was postponed and is being held today on 22nd June 2024. This meeting is therefore very important as it is being convened to enable the association reflect on its operations. I am glad that this meeting has finally taken place as it reflects the ability of the association to resolve issues as a football family,” Chileshe said.

“…therefore let me commend the move taken by the Football Association of Zambia to resolve the impasse administratively outside the courts of law. It is indeed a welcome move as it has demonstrated the high level of cohesion that exists in the association.”

He hailed FAZ for some positive strides scored in the game like the historic qualification of the Copper Queens to the FIFA World Cup and back-to-back Olympic Games qualifications.

“As the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, we are further elated with the positive strides that the association has continued to achieve over the years. Notably, the most recent being the landmark visit to Zambia by the FIFA president Mr. Gianni Infantino, who paid a courtesy call on the President of the Republic of Zambia,” he said.

“Other achievements noted have been the qualification of the Copper Queens to the 2024 WAFCON, the Paris 2024 Olympics, including their participation at the 2023 FIFA Women World Cup. Additionally, the under-17 female national team has just qualified to the world cup which will be staged in the Dominican Republic. These are huge milestones in the history of sport in Zambia.”

And Kamanga encouraged the members to always follow the constitution whenever they aired their grievances.

Meanwhile the meeting resolved to refer the matters from MUZA FC and Elite Ladies to the Zambian Premier League before taking them to the Emergency Council Meeting.

MUZA FC had proposed that the Zambian Premier League chairperson be elected by the members and also sought a blanket amnesty for all individuals that are serving bans from footballs.
However, FAZ guided that the ZPL creation was in a transitory period with a special committee under the clubs body where the MUZA FC president sits already tasked to work out a roadmap.

The council resolved to allow the ZPL to see out the process before the matter is tabled at the EGM.
On reconciliation, the council resolved that the matters of bans would be reviewed by the judicial bodies on a case by case basis. The proposal to bring back the Referees Association of Zambia (RAZ) was also deliberated on with the house agreeing to retain the Referees Desk at FAZ as prescribed by FIFA while ways to make the refs body relevant should be explored.

Meanwhile the council approved a budget of K275, 545, 424 for the year 2024.
