Farmers receive maize floor price with mixed feelings

Farmers who visited the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) office expressed their displeasure because they felt that the announced price is exploitative as it has not taken into consideration the cost of production.

They cited a number of factors that would have been considered before announcing the price such us the high cost of inputs like fertilizer and seed, fuel and labour.

Meanwhile, farmers in Nyimba district have not hidden their displeasure against Government hence they have appealed to ZNFU to help find or link them to companies that would offer them a better price.

They have described the recently announced floor price as a mockery.

And farmers in North Western have appealed to the ZNFU to find alternative markets for their maize and groundnuts as they bemoaned the FRA floor price saying it was exploitative.

The farmers have complained that the cost of production has being increasing steadily over the years such that the newly announced floor price was supposed to be the price some seasons ago.  – Qfm
