EX- convict dies after a mob attack

A man believed to be an ex-convict from Mchini Compound in Chipata District has died after being attacked by a mob.

The incident occurred yesterday Sunday 11 May 2025 afternoon.

The ex-convict, identified by police as Shadreck Kalaba Banda, aged between 30 and 40 years, was believed to have been terrorizing motorbike riders in Chipata by stealing motorbikes and threatening to shoot the victims if they resisted.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incidence to Breeze FM News that officers from Chipata Central Police responded to the call, picked up the victim, and took him to Chipata Central Hospital for treatment.

The victim, who had sustained head injuries believed to have been caused by a sharp object died while receiving medical attention.
