Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs Godfridah Sumaili has reiterated that government will not condone event managers inviting questionable characters that might undermine the morals of the country.

Sumaili says inviting people with questionable characters may corrupt Zambia’s Christian morals.

Speaking at a joint media briefing with the National Arts Council and PR Girl Media on the expected visit to Zambia of Somimizi Mhlongo, a South African socialite who is one of the most high profile celebrated gay in that country, Reverend Sumaili said in the promotion of national values and principles, artists, musicians and event promoters should develop a mechanism to hold their members accountable for compliance with national values and principles.

She insisted that Zambia does not promote homosexuality because it is a crime and inviting people that are homosexual entails that the country is accepting the vice.

But PR Girl Media co-founder Chishimba Nyambe her firm’s decision to invite Somizi, saying her team invited South African entertainer to grace this year’s Lusaka July as an influential fashion icon and not based on his sexuality.

Nyambe says the move was aimed at promoting Zambia’s budding fashion industry.

She however emphasized that Zambia’s morals and national values come first.

  1. Mnangagwa is questionable. He has killed protesting Zimbabweans but has he come out to proclaim he is a murderer? Somizi is not questionable. He is openly gay.
