EU, Zambia and 25 partner countries launch the ‘Coalition of Trade Ministers on Climate

Davos, Switzerland, 22 January 2023: THE European Union and Zambia joined 25 other partner countries in launching “The Coalition of Trade Ministers on Climate” in Davos, Switzerland.

Zambia’s Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Hon. Chipoka Mulenga is an integral part of this Coalition of Ministers. The Coalition of Trade Ministers on Climate is the first Ministerial-level global forum dedicated to trade, climate and sustainable development.

During the launch, Hon Chipoka Mulenga told the other partners who included the Director-General of the WTO, Ms Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, “Zambia is ready to do business with her neighbours, the region and the rest of the world. However, it should not be just trade like always; it needs to be trade that is conscious of the impact on today and the future’s climate. Therefore we choose to engage in climate friendly trade that offers mutual trade prosperity with our trade partners all over the world.”

The Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Zambia and COMESA, Ambassador Jacek Jankowski said, “The European Union very much welcomes Zambia’s participation in the launch of the Coalition of Trade Ministers on Climate. This reconfirms the strong international engagement of the new dawn government to promote a green transformation of the economy, including through trade relations.”
