Engineers urged to ensure quality works

The Engineering Institute of Zambia has urged engineers to address the issue of shoddy works by contractors in the country.

Briefing journalists on the Southern African Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Lusaka today, EIZ vice-president for policy, public relations and national development  George Sitali hoped the new executive members that will be elected will provide the right professional skills that the country requires and will be abreast with the engineering activities going on in the country.

He noted that value addition is key to ensuring that professional engineers spur development.

He disclosed that last year the institute presented a national transformation strategy paper that will help in tackling the challenges the engineering profession faces.

“We have 30.000 engineering professionals in southern and northern regions,” Sitali said. “We are gathered here to usher in new executive members to represent EIZ within the region and ensure that our members uphold professional standard in their work.

“There are too many shoddy works that we want the institute to address  and we are planning to be an active institution,” he said.

And outgoing EIZ president Bernard Chiwala says the nation is looking up to the engineering profession to spur development and reshape the country.

Chiwala urged the engineers to leave an undelible mark that the nation will benefit from, adding that the destiny of the Zambian people is connected to them.
