Employers, youths rejects increased in retirement age

The Zambia Federation of Employers has rejected the increase in the retirement age from 55 years to 65 years.

Federation President Alfred Masupha feels that the increase in the retirement will rob an opportunity for the youths to get employment. He said it is important that government rescinds its decisions to allow youths with skills get an opportunity to work or give chance to people do other productive venture once they retire when they are still viable.

Masupha argued that it shocking to increase the retirement age when the age expectancy in Zambia is very low.

Meanwhile, Muchinga MMD Member of Parliament, Howard Kunda has urged youths to reject the new development as it also robs them of an opportunity to work.

Kunda a youth also accused government of wanting to run away from paying any money to people who would have retired during the Patriotic Front – tenure. He urged the youths to reject the government in 2016 saying it has failed to meet their expectations.

The majority of the Zambian population is the youths who are unemployed though many of them have the necessary qualifications.
