ECZ sets dates for Presidential filing in of nominations

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) on Thursday announced that Presidential candidates will file in their nomination on December 17, 18 and 19th for the January 20 Presidential elections.

Presidential aspirants are expected to file in their nomination papers before the Chief Justice, who is the Returning Officer between 9am and 5pm.

ECZ Spokesperson Criss Akufuna has since advised Aspiring Candidates to indicate to the Commission the date and time they wish to lodge their nomination papers.

Akufuna says aspiring presidential candidates should lodge duly completed and attested statutory declaration of assets and liabilities and an oath of Zambian citizenship.

He also says aspiring Presidential candidates should also declare that they will comply to the Electoral code of conduct.

The ECZ Spokesperson has also announced that the campaign period starts November 18 and will end at 6pm on January 19, 2015 on the eve of Presidential election.

Mr AKUFUNA also advised registered non-governmental organisations and political parties wishing to monitor the elections to apply for acredidation from their respective District Electoral Officers, while international observers should apply to the ECZ.

Acting president GUY SCOTT has set Tuesday, January 20, 2015 as date for the presidential election.
