ECZ cautioned over online voter registration system

The Governance, Elections, Advocacy and Research Services (GEARS) initiative has advised the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to put in place measures that will deter unscrupulous individuals from hacking into the system once the online voter registration is launched.

This follows a statement from ECZ yesterday that plans to establish an online voter registration system ahead of the 2021 general elections are progressing well.

In an interview with Phoenix News, GEARS Executive Director Macdonald Chipenzi says in an much as the initiative by the Commission to use technology in the provision of service is welcome, there is need to put in place measures that will protect the electoral system in an event of technological failures during the implementation process to avoid raising suspicions.

Chipenzi has however indicated that the use of advanced technology in the delivery of electoral services will increase efficiency.
