‘Dysfunctional’ ConCourt must be disbanded – Msoni

All Peoples Congress (APC) Party President Nason Msoni has urged Zambian taxpayers to call for the disbanding of the country’s Constitutional Court saying the rulings and determinations coming out of the said court contradicts the purpose for which it was created.

Msoni in a statement, says the Constitutional Court is a moribund institution which is only serving the interests of Republican President Edgar Lungu.

He says tax payers should demand for its disbandment because in its current form, the Constitutional Court is a dysfunctional institution incapable of delivering equitable Justice to citizens besides just milking tax payers.

“The most difficult decision for Zambian taxpayers is to insist on keeping and maintaining the moribund Constitutional Court which essentially is now a court created to serve the interests of Mr Lungu and his friends.

“The Judgements and the erroneous determinations churning out clearly contradict the very essence of legality in totality. As taxpayers, a time has come to demand that this court which is not fit for the purpose should be disbanded in order to be reorganised.

“From our standpoint of view, This court in its current form is dysfunctional and is incapable of delivering equitable Justice to our citizens besides just milking their pockets through taxes.

Let us view injustice inflicted on any one of us as injustice on all of us,” he said.

He said there is nothing less than disbanding the Constitutional Court that can atone for the abuse and lack of public confidence in the court.

“Nothing can atone for the abuse of the court process than to demand its disbanding in order to be reorganised and win back public confidence.

“it is clearly now the duly for all progressive political leaders to ensure that the disbandment of this court is an agenda political item to any political discourse and engagement as a precondition.

This is the court criminals are using to launder illegality and fraudulent elections,” he said.

The outspoken opposition leader explained that the court was being used by “criminals”  to circumvent the legality of electoral processes to earn political mandate.

“This is the court criminals are using as a conduit to circumvent the legality of electoral processes and subsequently handing down the fraudulent political mandate to thieves.

“This court has become inimical to the public interest and is posing a serious danger to public good and order.

“This court has become part of the Problem our country is experiencing including the plunder and looting of the state resources and is, in fact, the creation of this court,” he said.

The APC President was commenting on the Constitutional Court’s overturning of the High Court ruling that nullified the election of Lusaka Central MP Margaret Mwanakatwe due to what it deemed electoral malpractices.
