Update after the briefing:

1. Attendance was  in thousands

2. DF partnered with the UPND to work together through a written agreement (contents not availed to the media), both signatories were in very high and jovial mood, and contrary to observations about faces, they were actually smiling and laughing through out, moments observed are times either side was either talking or listening to the other.

3. Miles Sampa did NOT defect to the UPND but rallied his party and ENTIRE membership to work with the UPND,

4. His National leadership in the DF included Racheal Chileshe, Na Chibe Chibe

5. Former Vice President and also former President (For three months), Dr Guy Scot came a long with Mr Sampa (still PF MP) and ENDORSED HH as such for 11 August, and rubbished the PF and Lungu as having taken the vision of sata to the dogs,

6. Hon Anthony Mwila from Kalulushi came all the way from Kalulushi to endorse HH for 11 August, and promised

A Ms Mhango is deputy SG of narep endorsed HH and joined to work with the UPND,

7. Two freedom Fighters endorsed HH, one said economy will only improve when agriculture is part of the country’s serious business and the only person who can do that is HH, while Mr Mbayimbayi blessed HH, GBM, Dr Banda, Miles Sampa, and Dr Scot, and no other was allowed to replicate such a blessing to prevent some superstitious undertakings on the blessed leaders

8. Several others spoke, but the event was mainly the D/UPND partnership to which Dr Scot said he will ensure it does not fail as the case was between the PF and UPND in 2011.

  13. Whichever way Ones political bias lies, nobody in his right senses can say that Scott does not enjoy some respect in the rank and file of grassroot PF supporters. Many saw him enduring tribulations side by side with Sata. Not to mention that Sata willingly had made him second in command both at party and government level. If he was accorded his level of respect by Sata himself, that respect is not altogether lost amongst PF diehards. If they do not vote alongside Scott, then it will throw current PF leadership under doubt as being the true vision holders of Sata

This is a big blow for PF. They should have accomodated Scott in a small position somewhere instead of publicly humiliating him. Dont forget , ECL needed Scott to go with him in the same vehicle during last campaigns.

Lusaka Central is quite loyal to this old madala and he will swing a few votes here and there wherever he goes

  14. Indeed we Zambians are tribal, admit it or not. Genetically programmed into us. Its in our blood.

Only two things blinds us to tribalism. One is a good goal in a qualifier (who cares what tribe the scorer is !!!). And the second ? Thats hunger.

Rodrick, no doubt UPND is tribal. And no doubt the original PF was tribal. And no doubt the new Eastern PF is wako ni wako.

But with an economic crash, Zambians rise above tribalism. If the Zambian thinks UPND will alleviate his current suffering and a Tonga is needed in this crisis, then so be it !

Once open campaigning is allowed (or should I say IF campaigning is allowed to the opposition) you will see the crowds.

For PF, dont try the tribal scare-mongering. Give us more money in our pockets like you promised. We have waited pariently for 5 years. If you cant give us what you promised, we will abandon you, even if the others are Tonga, Senga, tumbuka, soli , even white.

    • For the first time in the history of our country, civil servants were awarded 100% salary increments in the first year of PF. Teachers today are much more comfortable than they have been under past regimes.

Yes, the situation we are in is bad but there are many people who will praise the PF for what they have done

  20. You can check it out, since the dawn of true mult-party democracy was ushered in true citizens of the land of zambia have never failed to exercise their wisdom of choice. The red line that canot be crossed to the zambian people is the economic down turn. They have brouhght down to the ground failed and corupt political parties never mind the tribe of the president and have installed new political parties to power so never minding the tribe of the president of that party. Conclusion is that the people of zambia have risen above tribalism. If you mess up their economy they will definately mess up with you. You can use the cadres or police to deal with them for many days, they will only use their voters card only for one and you are done. Once again the zambian people are at it again, the political landscape is fast changing, some one is about to be punished. Long live the united people of zambia, long live one nation.

  27. UPND amazes me as a party. We have a saying back East Kuyambilila si kufika! I was passing at Ndeke Hotel where the supposedly UPND, kaseba, Scot and miles shindig was happening. I thought perhaps I was living on another planet and HH had won the “August” election in March!.

I looked at my fellow motorists as they watched the spectacle with total indifference. The go forward hands did not notice this as they were on cloud 9, 7th heaven!. What amazed me though all the guys and dolls talking on the street coming from the Press Briefing were talking in Tonga. Truly this party has chimwela from where the leader hails from. Nothing wrong with that as we also intend to do likewise back east. Except for us we don’t show our exuberance as our colleagues do. We do it quietly through the ballot we will come in thousands for the rallies but will vote wisely when the time comes. Multitudes dont mean you have won an election. If Mr Sata was alive he would have confirmed this.

This premature chimwela shall burn out and die out as the new joiners begin trooping back to where they came from.

My fear is that those who have “already won” the elections may have a shock of their lives come August 2016 when we the Zambians, not diplomats, decide who shall lead us.

    God bless Zambia

    • Observer I agree with you that this government is for poor people. Its no wonder there are shortages of mealie meal all over the country, the poor are milking fellow poor by increasing their salaries on a reduced tax base, and many more. If this country continues to have leaders with a warped mind like yours, glorifying poverty, the next generation will be doomed. Wake up from your nightmare and face reality.
No one stopped you from going to school so do not blame those who are better than you. Go to school and better your life. Start by improving your thinking. Stop hero worshiping failure as though it is the right way to live.

There is need for pragmatic change. If UPND and HH wins please remember to steer Zambia to sanity. Bring back onennes and construct the institutional frameworks to outlaw tribalism and to create separation of power so that institutions for oversight especially parliament, the anticorruption commission, auditor general’s office, parliament, human rights commission are given the power to operate.Let us also have the constitution we wanted. It is already there in draft form. After that you can retire honorably and let others continue. Heaven is waiting for those who are in Christ Jesus.
