Siavonga District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama says he does not belong to any political party.
Kanyama has pulled down the flags of the opposition UPND which were mounted in Siavonga District. He has charged that the district is tourist place and he will not allow political parties to put their flags.
He says some UPND members from Monze went to Siavonga to put the flags the situation he describes as unacceptable.
Below is Kanyama’s full comment on the development:
Stop aligning me to any political party , Siavonga is a tourist attraction, that will not entertain party flags to be mounted in the streets of Siavonga. Yes political party flags mounted at kambila village along the main Siavonga road were brought down today 14/10/2018, all what i did was to ask people of that area to remove them and they did just that .
I will continue to bring down political party flags mounted in the streets of Siavonga. I salute the patriotic front Siavonga district members who have observed the directive not to mount political party flags in the streets of Siavonga, am expecting the united party for national development to follow suit.
We have advised political parties to mount their political party flags in their homes and no one will question them. According to the people of Kambila , the UPND political party flags were recently mounted by some individuals who came from Monze district. I want to urge the Monze UPND leadership to stay away from Siavonga district, and I want to remined them that Siavonga is a tourist attraction that can not be compared to Monze .
Political parties will only be allowed to mount their political party flags when there are elections in the tourist town of Siavonga. My office in conjunction with the security wings will continue bringing down political party flags mounted in the streets of Siavonga. Let’s all keep the town roads clean and green regardless of political affiliation .
Lovemore Kanyama . Siavonga District Commissioner
