Popular radio and television presenter Caristo Chitamfya Jr has died. He was the son of veteran broadcaster and Zambia Railways Public Relations Manager, Cristo Chitamfya Snr.

Chitamfya Jr, better known as Caristo Clear, died in the early hours of today in a road traffic accident along the Great East Road in Northmead area.

The budding media personality met his fate while driving a white Mercedes Benz on his way home shortly after attending Macky 2’s album launch at the Sky Bar in Lusaka.

Police assistant public relations confirmed the death of the young journalist, saying, “We received a report of a Road Traffic Accident in which one person died.

“This occurred today (28/06/18) around 05:00hrs along Great East Road near Handyman’s Paradise.”

Chilabi explained that Chitamfya Jr, 24, died on the spot after he misjudged clearance distance and rammed into a Hino truck from behind.

“Involved were two motor vehicles, Hino light Truck registration No.AJD 1064 driven by William Gwatilinga aged 37 a resident of Kanyama Compound in Lusaka and Mercedes Benz Reg. No.BAC 8166 which was being driven by Caristo Chitamfya Jnr. aged 24 of Plot 706 Chalala in Lusaka.

“The driver of the Mercedes Benz is alleged to have misjudged clearance distance and hit into the light truck from behind. He died on the spot,” Chilabi stated.

He further said both motor vehicles were moving in the same direction – east to west.

Chitamfya’s body is deposited in the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary awaiting postmortem.
