Districts in Zambia, Malawi ban kabwandire because of coronavirus

Zambia’s Chipata District and Mchinji District of Malawi have agreed to promulgate and effect the ban on cross border mobile markets popularly known as Kabwandire.

During the Chipata/ Mchinji multi-sectoral committee meeting on Covid-19 in Chipata recently, the two administrations resolved to suspend the markets so as to limit the chances of spreading the deadly pandemic between the two areas.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, Chipata Mayor Sinoya Mwale said the meeting was fruitful because they managed to touch on a number of progressive issues.

The peoples of Zambia and Malawi enjoy cordial relations and inter-communities bilateral trade relationships.

Meanwhile, two District administrations reaffirmed their commitments to ending Kabwandire as one way of preventing the spread of Covid-19.
