DISASTER: Zambia records 3 deaths, 85 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours

According to information from the ministry of health, Zambia has recorded three COVID19 related deaths, 85 new cases out of 496 tests in the last 24hrs.

Of the total cases recorded, 76 are from Nakonde, with nine being from Lusaka.

Zambia’s Covid-19 cases now stands at 252, with 7 deaths, with 112 discharges and 133 active Covid19 cases.

On the deaths, the first patient was being investigated for T8 at Ndola Teaching Hospital.

In line with country’s protocol for health facility surveillance he was tested for COVlD-19; he was transferred upon testing positive to Masaiti isolation facility yesterday where he passed on.

The other two were tested posthumously as per protocol for facility deaths.

One of them is a 30 year old woman who was being treated for chronic liver disease, while the other is an 82 year old woman who was being treated for Cerebral Vascular Accident (CVA) after a sudden fall at home – ministry of health.

Nakonde is now a new epicenter and an infected area that must be avoided.

“Following increased confirmation of COV|D~ 19 among truck drivers who transited through Nakonde, we launched targeted community and healthcare-based screening and testing in Nakonde, Muchinga Province.

“The operation was targeted towards truck drivers, Immigration and Customs officials, staff in lodges, healthcare workers, and members of the community in Nakonde,” said the ministry.
