President Edgar Lungu has ignored a petition challenging his eligibility as he launches his campaign ahead of the polls set for 12 August.
Lungu kick started his campaign this morning by launching the Patriotic Front (PF) General Elections campaign despite Sishuwa Sishuwa and Chapter One Foundation filing at the Constitutional Court challenging his eligibility.
Lungu is being challenged on account that he was sworn in twice as the Republican President, and according to the constitution he cannot be sworn for the third term.
However, Lungu could benefit from the technicalities in the matter, as he says the so-called term was not a full term as he was just finishing off his predecessor’s term of office.
