7th Graduation Ceremony Highlights Growing Demand for Skilled Caregivers

Choma, Zambia – 10th April 2026

Coweth College has successfully held its 7th Graduation Ceremony, with a strong message that Zambia’s healthcare workforce—particularly in geriatric care—is increasingly becoming both a national priority and a global opportunity.

Held at the Coweth College Campus under the theme “Empowered to Care, Prepared to Serve the World,” the ceremony saw the graduation of a new cohort of Health & Social Care Assistants trained in geriatric care.

The event, attended by healthcare stakeholders, parents, and members of the community, celebrated not only academic achievement but also the growing role of caregivers in addressing both local healthcare needs and international demand.

🌍 Global Opportunities for Zambian Caregivers

Delivering a virtual address from the United Kingdom, Social Health Care Expert Mr. Thom Shonga highlighted the increasing demand for trained caregivers across Europe, the Middle East, Canada, and other regions.

He noted that graduates from institutions such as Coweth College are well-positioned to meet international standards, particularly in elderly care services.

“The world is in need of compassionate and skilled caregivers. With the right mindset and professionalism, these graduates have opportunities not only in Zambia, but globally,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the District Director of Health, Dr. Zulu Belita, Dr. Makasa emphasized the importance of trained caregivers in strengthening Zambia’s healthcare system.

She noted that as the population continues to grow and age, there is an increasing need for qualified personnel to support hospitals, communities, and families, especially in geriatric care.

In his remarks, Mr. Owen Miyanza, Board Chairperson of Coweth College and Coweth Foundation, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to producing graduates who meet both local and international industry requirements.

He highlighted that the training programme integrates:
