Couple in their 80s collapse at the sound of fireworks

A couple believed to be in their 80s collapsed and were rushed to Mtendere clinic after a 10 year old boy blew fireworks at them.

Mr and Mrs Phiri had their blood pressure rise after a grandson blew fireworks at the time they were having a Christmas meal on 25th December 2012.The happened at about 18:00 hours.

The couple only gained conscious at the clinic and looked surprised as they found themselves being attended to at the clinic. They did not know exactly what had happened.

Explaining from their hospital bedside, Mr and Mrs Phiri said all they heard was a blast and a flame of fire and could not recall anything  thereafter.

The incidence attracted scores of Mtendere residents who abandoned family gatherings to witness what has happened to the couple as they were caught an aware.

A hospital source confirmed that the couple’s condition was stable and have since been discharged.

  1. Too bad. It’s good non of the two died with shock, Merry Christmas good people. Grandson take your stupid fireworks elsewhere.
