Zambia’s Captain Chris Katongo has made it on the last list of candidates for the African Footballer of the Year Award by the Confederation of African Football.

Katongo is the only one from the Chipolopolo team that won the African Nations Cup in Gabon who has shortlisted to the last 10 players, which will be cut to three before the award is announced in Accra, Ghana on December 20.

If he gets the award Katongo will become the second Zambian to win the award after Kalusha Bwalya in 1996 when Zambia finished third in Nations Cup held by South Africa.

The other African players on the list include last year’s winner Yaya Toure of Ivory Coast with his country mates Didier Drogba and Gervinho.

Demba Ba a striker for Newcastle United, Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel and the former Arsenal midfielder Alexandre Song will be competiting for the slot.

Another entry who is also a serious challenger is Morocco’s Younes Belhanda who proved the key player in Montpellier’s Ligue 1 success earlier this year.

Zambia’s Coach Herve Renard is also on the list of candidates for the best coach after he managed to guide the Chipolopolo Boys to get African Cup for the first time.
