Chilanga Council Chairperson dies

Chilanga District Council Chairperson Maria-Theresa Malila has died.

Mrs Malila died at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) where she was rushed to this morning.

And UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has expressed shock at the death of Mrs Malila, who was a member of the opposition party.

“It is with deep sense of shock to learn about the sadden demise of our Chilanga District Council Chairperson Mrs. Maria-Theresa Maimpampe Malila,” Hichilema said in a brief statement posted on his Facebook page.

“We send our deepest condolences to the family of the late Mrs. Malila and the people of Chilanga Constituency who have lost a highly dependable representative in the area.”

Hichilema paid glowing tribute to Mrs Malila’s contribution to the UPND party, the people of Chilanga and the country as a while.

“Mrs. Malila was providing a lot of guidance to our Coucillors, not only in Chilanga, but throughout the country.

“As a party, we have assigned her numerous tasks both home and abroad which she executed with perfection.

“We shall deeply miss her immense services and council leadership in the country.”

The opposition leader called on his party members and the Zambian people to mourn the “gallant” Mrs Malila with dignity.

The late Mrs Malila was the wife to Supreme Court Judge and former Attorney General Mumba Malila.
