Chieftainess Kawaza salutes police professionalism after attacks

Her Royal Highness Chieftainess Kawaza has saluted the way the Zambia Police Service handled a mob attack on its members in Katete.

She thanked police officers for acting professionally despite them being attacked by villagers.

The chieftainess said, had police officers defended themselves using firearms the situation in her Chiefdom would be totally different.

Meanwhile, she implored the police to quickly investigate and bring the perpetrators of the attack on police officers to book so that they face the wrath of the law.

The chieftainess said this yesterday when the Deputy Inspector General of Police In-Charge of Operations Milner Muyambango paid a courtesy call on her at her Palace in Katete.

And Muyambango assured the chieftainess of police presence in Katete District.

Muyambango thanked the chieftainess together with other traditional leaders for visiting the injured officers in the Hospital.

Apparently, assaulting a police officer is considered a violent felony, no matter the type.

The court of law takes all kinds of assault seriously but those against police officers are considered horrific.

However, punishments for assaulting a police officer may depend on the jurisdiction prosecuting the incident. It also depends on the situation surrounding a specific matter.

Possible punishments that an accused could get include probation, parole, and restitution. Others are jail, or prison sentences, community service, and criminal fines.
