Chief Justice Irene Mambilima says there is need to quickly resolve election disputes that arise during or after elections.

Justice Mambilima says it is the duty of the judiciary to address such matters promptly to avoid any electoral uncertainties.

She says it is important that the judiciary prepares adequately to address any unforeseen petitions because every general election comes with such issues.

Justice Mambilima was speaking at the colloquium Electoral Justice and Preparations for the 2021 General election today.

The Chief Justice also stressed that it is the duty of judges to protect the political rights of citizens during and after the general election.

Meanwhile, Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- Chairperson Esau Chulu expressed concern over the growing trend where people start legal action against the commission even when the suits are unnecessary. -znbc
