Changing is coming to Zambia, says opposition UPND presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema.

Hichilema who is been campaigning in Lusaka province ahead of the August 11 general elections has expressed confidence that he will win the elections and bring the much needed change in Zambia.

Below is Hichilema’s statement to Zambian Eye:

As we gear up for our official launch rally on Saturday 21 May change is in the air. During door-to-door campaigns this week we have again seen the suffering and poverty everywhere as a result of rising food prices and lack of job and business opportunities.

Yet at the same time we are seeing the blossoming of hope as Zambians prepare to make their vote and their choice for the positions of President, MPs, Mayors and Councillors for the next five years.

In the UPND we believe there is great reason for hope and tomorrow we will officially launch our campaign and release our 10 Point Plan to fix Zambia. We are coming to the Zambian people with a serious proposition that outlines the areas in which we plan to take action to turnaround the economy and improve living conditions for our people.

As we enter the heated campaign period leading up to the August elections we know that there will be tense and emotional moments. Whether it is at a rally or on social media we call on everyone to remain respectful and focused on the issues rather than making personal attacks. As we have said before, we are still Zambians that must love one another as we are all fighting for the same good of making our country better.

We therefore call for maximum restraint and calmness, especially from our members in the way they engage with those who do not agree with us. Differences of political opinion are healthy in a democracy and tolerance is a must.

Hakainde Hichilema
UPND President
