BY Mwila’s body arrives

The body of late former Defence Minister and NDF leader Benjamin Mwila’s body has arrived back in Zambia from South Africa where he died from on Saturday.

Mwila’s body came via South African Airways plane accompanied by his wife Maggie, Mwila’s Aid Chipashya and family members. The body that landed at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport was received by Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba who also served as Mwila’s Vice president in Zambia Republican Party (ZRP), Zambia’s Immediate president Rupiah Banda and MMD leader Nevers Mumba.

The body has since been taken to Ideal Funeral Pallor in readiness for public viewing at Mwila’s Lusaka Chadleigh house on Wednesday, August 21, 2013. The Michael Sata led PF government has honored Mwila with a state funeral and has declared  three days on National mourning starting today upto Thursday 18:00 hours.

The burial will take place on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Memorial Park and will be preceded by a Church Service at Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka.

Mwila known by Zambians as BY died at the age of 70 has been described as one of the view that fought Kenneth Kaunda’s one-party-rule. He was instrumental in funding the MMD in 1990. He became Defence Minister in the first MMD cabinet the position he held for seven years. Due to his presidential ambition, his nephew – Frederick Chiluba then President and Michael Sata Chief Executive of MMD chased BY from the government and party.
