Bottom Road contractor abandons works due to lack of funding

Construction of the Bottom road from Siavonga turn off to Sinazeze in Southern province has stalled with the contractor engaged by government abandoning works due to lack of funding.

Gwembe District Commissioner, Justus Phiri who confirmed the development, told Byta FM News in Mazabuka that the contractor has not been on site for a while and has not communicated to authority.

He said that 131.5 Kilometres from Siavonga turn off to Munyumbwe has been done, while the stretch from Munyumbwe to Sinazeze is pending.

And Gwembe Member of Parliament Malungo Chisangano has expressed disappointment at the stalled works and tells Byta FM News that the delayed works have hampered development in the valley.

She says the bottom road is important to the country’s economy and needs urgent attention from government.

Chisangano has since called on government to quickly finish the construction of the road to persuade agriculture and tourism investment in Siavonga, Gwembe and Sinazeze.
