Body of Litunga’s wife arrives in Mongu for burial

The remains of Her Royal Highness Mulako, The Muoyo Imwambo and late Queen of Barotseland, arrived in Mongu Sunday afternoon from Lusaka, reports correspondent in Mongu.

The Queen died at University Teaching Hospital on March 10, 2014 and will be buried on Monday, March 17.

The remains which arrived at Mongu airport at exactly 16:00 hrs CAT, abode a Zambia Air Force plane, was then taken to the Catholic Central Church in Mongu.

In view of the arrival of the remains of the late Barotse Queen, the Barotse Royal Authority has hence forth declared a National Mourning in Barotseland until after her Royal burial on Monday March  17, 2014. During this two day morning period no activities of entertainment in nature will be permitted in Barotseland. It also means that No one will be allowed to go to work of public or personal nature, save for essential duty, as this is in accordance with Royal etiquette, correspondents say.

The Royal authority have  urged for a strict observance of the national mourning period for both visitors and inhabitants, royals and commoners, of Barotseland failure to which may be deemed disrespectful to the laws of the land.

Meanwhile, Vice president Guy Scott has refuted assertions suggesting that the Patriotic Front (PF) government has ignored the funeral of the late Litunga’s wife Mulako who was the Queen of Barotseland.

Dr. Scott has said that, contrary to some reports, his office for example is working hand in hand with the Barotse Royal Establishment to make arrangements for the late Litunga’s wife’s funeral and that government does not expect any hiccups.

Dr. Scott has disclosed to Radio Qfm news in a telephone interview Sunday morning that among other things that government has organized resources for Her Royal Highness’s coffin, air crafts used today and that the Zambia National Service (ZNS) and the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) are working on the burial site of the late Litunga’s wife.

The Vice president said that others working on the burial site include the Mongu Local Authority as well as the provincial administration.

He said that this is why assertions that the PF government and President Michael Sata in particular have ignored the funeral of the late Litunga’s wife are complete falsehood.

And Dr. Scott has urged Media Houses in the country to avoid basing their queries for him to respond to on reports being published by anonymous media institutions that are allegedly bent on causing embarrassment to individuals.
