Opposition UPND presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema has asked his supporters to stay patient saying the results will soon be clear.

The latest results released by Electoral Commission of Zambia from 80 constituencies show Hichilema closing up to Edgar Lungu who is the ruling party’s candidate. The results show Lungu ahead with about 59, 000 votes but the remaining 70 constituencies are from Hichilema’s stronghold.

The opposition leader who all opinion polls conducted prior to the January 20 Presidential election showed that he was favourite to win the elections admitted that the race was tight.

I urge you to stay patient. The results are likely to be extremely tight, but we are encouraged by independently analyzed PVT (Parallel Voter Tabulation) from civil society as well as our internal numbers. All will become clear soon. We will keep you updated as things continue to develop. Thank you and God bless,” Hichilema said in his message to his supporters Thursday morning.

PVT conducted by various organisation puts Hichilema ahead.

  3. What we have noticed is that from the 32 PF strong holds,HH will get some respectable numbers unlike Lungu who is getting low votes from HH strong holds.
    Watch the drama unfold people.
I urge the ECZ to verify the result coming from the PF strong holds.

  8. Thank you Mr. Hichilema for a well timed message; it’s not only for your supporters (UPND), but for the whole nation.

This is indeed a very tight race and calls for a lot of patience on the part of those involved, especially PF and UPND.

    God bless you all.

  10. You cannot leave out a whole province from cabinet (NW) and not expect a backlash PF! This is the backlash from the long-suffering and disgusted Zambians. Viva HH Zambia’s 6th president. Today you shall be president, my president!
This shows that Zambians are not stupid or docile like most people like to label us. Just ask KK, Chiluba, RB and now PF! This is a lesson to all Zambian politicians. Viva mother Zambia!

  11. Intricate rigging by pf at work stealing votes frm HH. Pf has never been honest and will not be in future. Electoral law is bad that does not allow the Commission to order recount at the headoffice unless at the supreme court wenever a recount happens.
