Be fair to everyone in Katuba – UPND

Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) spokesperson Charles Kakoma has condemned the unfair treatment that police subject opposition supporters to during the bye elections.

Kakoma says police must be fair how they conduct the upcoming Katuba Constituency Bye Election.

He said that Police must  ensure that all political parties adhere to schedules that will be submitted to them during campaigns of the 30th July, 2019 Katuba Parliamentary by-election.

Kakoka said this in reaction to a call made by Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja, urging all participating political parties in the by-election to avail their campaign schedules to the Zambia Police so as to avoid possible crashes.

But Kakoma  noted that in the past bye elections, Police have disadvantaged opposition patties in preference to the Patriotic Front whom he says usually do not abide by the agreed schedule of political rallies in constituencies holding a by-election.

He has asked Kangana to see to it that past experiences in other by-elections that led to acts of violence are not repeated in Katuba Constituency.

The Katuba By-Election was necessitated by the death of UPND Member of Parliament Patricia Mwashingwele on May 2, 2019. The PF,  UPPZ and UPND backed by Opposition Political Alliance have indicated that they will  participate in the election while the opposition People’s Alliance for Change (PAC) has said it will not contest.
