Barclays Cup is now ABSA Cup

The Football Association of Zambia has announced a rebranded 2019 ABSA Cup for the transitional season where only four clubs will participate.

The competition, previously called the Barclays Cup, began in 2007 with 18 clubs participating as 8 came from the Zambian Super League, 4 from Division 1 and 6 from Division 2.

This year will see a change in the competition as for the first time no lower league sides will participate and it will see the clubs which finish in the Top 2 of STREAM A and STREAM B starting at the Semi Final stage.

FAZ General Secretary said in a statement that the semifinals of the Absa cup will be played on 15th June 2019 with the finals scheduled for 22nd June 2019.

Kashala said the changes will only apply during the transition period and revert to the usual format of six super division clubs and two division one clubs for the August 2019 to May 2020 season.
