Zambia’s Attorney General, Mulilo Kabesha SC, filed an application in the Pretoria High Court seeking permission to inspect the body of the late former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, according to court documents cited by the UPND-aligned CIC media.

This development has been widely criticized not only by Zambians but also by South Africans, many of whom took to the airwaves today on various radio stations such as 702 Talk Radio to express their disapproval and outrage on why the Zambian Government is so fixated with the the late Presidents remains. Callers condemned the move as unnecessary, disrespectful, and very suspicious.

Social and Political commentator Siyabonga Ndhlovu commented on South Africa 802 talk radio
“Why the obsession? Why the rush to lay hands on a coffin when the matter is still in court? Why the unholy eagerness to disturb the peace of the dead before all legal processes have run their course?” said.

And a caller from Lesotho Pallesa also stressed that this is not merely a legal matter but a moral one, pointing to African traditions that demand respect for the dead and protection of their dignity.

“What exactly is driving this fixation?”

Public reaction has been swift, with critics calling the government’s stance disrespectful and unnecessary while related legal matters remain unresolved.

For many Zambians, one haunting question remains: Why is the late Edgar Lungu still being tormented, even in death?
