….EFZ Distances itself from three Church Mother Bodies statement

THE EVANGELICAL Fellowship of Zambia has distanced itself from the joint press conference by Church Mother Bodies dubbed ‘State of the Nation.’

The Press Conference which was led by Catholic Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu stated that the country was in a crisis.

The Archbishop also agreed to decision of UPND not to recognise President Lungu as duly elected.

Some exempts from the Archbishop’s speech include;

“Our country today stands at the crossroads and we are in a crisis.”

““The country is in all, except in designation a dictatorship and if it is not yet, then we are not far from it.”

“With the current state of affairs, it is difficult to see how the UPND can easily recognize the legitimacy of Lungu’s re-election in August 2016.”

Archbishop Mpundu claimed the statement was representative of three Church Mother Bodies ZCCB, CCZ and EFZ.

But the EFZ has distanced itself from the statement claiming they were not consulted and the EFZ Board was not part and parcel.

EFZ Vice Chairperson Bishop Peter Ndhlovu noted that the Archbishop’s statement has a potential to cause anarchy in the country.

Bishop Ndhlovu noted that the church’s role was to preach and promote peace as opposed to fanning division.

He added that the country has one duly elected President through a fair election that all mother bodies observed and thus he should be respected.

Bishop Ndhlovu added that it is a total misconception and fabrication to allege that the country was under a dictatorship seige.

He said President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has thus shown qualities of a good democratic leader and those accusing him of being a dictator are doing it out of their own selfish interest.

EFZ today held an emergency board management meeting following media reports penning their signature to a statement read by Archbishop Mpundu which suggested that the country was in a crisis and demanding the release of opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema who is facing treason charges.

  6. Open letter to Telesphore Mpundu
    Father Mpundu your hatred for certain people or should we say tribalism is starting to show. If you are not seeing that you are dividing the Catholic Church, then you need special glasses. Your true colors were bound to come out. This was long coming, all because of your false sense of importance. At heart I think you are a tribalist. You only see Bemba colors and for a religious leader, this is dangerous. The Catholic church is one of the churches which is not tribally inclined. Don’t try to make it one. Is it all because of GBM? You have this imaginary fight with the easterners in your head. Where this is coming from only you can explain. As a learned man that you are, you should know that no tribe is above the other in Zambia. UNIP knew this, MMD knew this and PF knows this. I am not sure UPND and HH in particular know this. But your hatred for anything non-bemba is making you blind We will now start wondering why you ever supported Sata. You are losing it, Father Mpundu!
